Costumes and make-up

A theatre-in-the-round needs the services of a highly imaginative and skillful costume designer, for the costume creates a large portion of the atmosphere of the plays. This applies especially to period plays.The costume must be beautifully designed and perfectly executed. it has to be thoroughly authentic as to style, materials and the minutest details because the proximity of the spectators enables them to examine it very closely. faking is absolutely out of the guestion ; it is impossible, for example, to substitute  a cheap material when a glistening satin is reguired. in a play calling for richness and a lush quality,like moliere s the learned ladies,the exuberance of the costume is as the performance of the actor. the costume reflects the emotional  impact of the play as well as its locale and its time.

Directing 

   A good director in a picture-frame theatre is also a good director in theatre in the round.The medium does not present any insurmountable problem; any director with experience and common sense can adjust to a different type of staging, and if he has imagination (which he should have in any kind of theatre), he can direct plays as well in a theatre -in- the-round.

     because I believe this, many of things I am going to say about directing in this chapter apply to any type of stage and only a few refer exclusively to theatre- in-the-round.I have fond in going from one medium to the other -and I have often to this -that the basic principles and problems are the same: the approach to the play, the relationship to the actors and even the actual staging."Treat the stage as a circle" wrote Arthur Hopkins in reference point, "not as a parallelogram. A well-staged play will look as  convincing from the backstage wall as from the orchestra pit."

     In addition to his own imagination, which he needs in any medium, the director must make use of the audience's imagination when he is working in theatre-in- the-round.The more the relies on the audience's capacity to imagine, the truer his results are likely to be.He must never be afraid that the audience will fail to respond when he invites them to use their intelligence. Everybody has imagination; it is up to the director to stimulate it.

BASIC  OF  INDIAN  DANCE

       The conception of the Hindu art of dancing from the earliest time has been

 in the main spiritual.It has been necessary adjunct to religious rites from Vedic times.No wonder,divine origin is attributed to it, as having been invented by Brahma the lord of Creation himself,embodying in it the essence of the four Vadas and also as having been presented to the world by no less than Lord Siva and his consort Parwathee in the two characteristic forms of Tandava,the manly and forceful,and Lasya the Feminine and graceful.The close association of lord Siva with dance as Nataraja(king of dancer)with its all embracing Cosmic conception is of no ordinary significance to the art.Creation,preservation,activity and destruction are all            ''Nothing but a play of the will of the supreme being.naught is or moves but by hiss will''       A grand conception of this nature raises Indian art to magnification spiritual plane typical of all Hindu culture and has been a source of no small inspiration to the allied arts of painting,sculpture and iconography yo perpetuate or immoralities it by visual representation in stone,color and metal.

        pre-production

        The first stage in the creation of a film is the assembly of an idea and script. Sometimes this is a fully developed screenplay sometimes it is little more then a basic pitch, in which the writer describes the script will influence many of the macro aspects of film language, such as character development themes and narrative tension. however, it is common for scripts to be rewritten, sometimes beyond recognition, during pre-producation

       Casting is a critical element of pre- production. The director is one of the first people appointed, and she or he has most significant influence over all elements of the film from then onwords.the director and casting director to most of the casting of main actors. Supporting players are usually found by the casting director alone. star power is very strong in hollywood, and this means that the leading actor is sometimes involved, casting is very important in creating meanings within the film. this is not just  because an actor has a particular look or style, but also because she or he may bring a certain star identity to the role. For example, casting Renee zellweger as a romantic lead will create very different meanings from casting julia roberts in the same role

           At this stage, some elements of the film's overall look are also constructed. the art director or the production designer works with costume and set designers to create a consistent aesthetic tone for the film. location scouts search for appropriate places to film. storyboards are  prepared for important sequences.

                Special effects work begins during pre-production, since computer- generated images and animatronics can be extremely time consuming. Miniatures, puppets and prosthetics are built.

FILM AS AN ART

      There is then, every reason to believe that there lies ahead of cinema a tremendous field quite separate from that already developed along the lines of the story film. new means of production, made possible by propaganda and instruction, open up new avenues of experiment and exhibition and new publicity indicate new forms of films ans new attitudes towards the materials of cinema.
      This does not imply that the story films as such has no place in cinema, that amusement, recreation, entertainment, call it what you will, is not an essential thing to the ordinary person, nor that cinema has not performed a vast function in making the theatre available to the masses by pursuing the line of photographed stage plays. But it does most emphatically suggest that the story film is not the be all end all of cinema.that other kinds of films are as important, if not more important, in the long run than the fiction product of the commercial studios

the plays of samuwell beckets,arthur adamov,and eugene Inesco have been perfomed with astonishing sucsess inFrance,German,sandinia.this reseftinon is all the more puzzling when one cconsiders that the adionces concerned were amused by and applauded these plays fully aware that they could not understand what they meant or what their authors were driving act.
